Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, has hailed President Muhammadu Buhari for granting his request that two ministerial slots be given to Edo state.
The two ministers are Osagie Ehanire (Minister of Health) and Clement Ike (Minister of Budget and National Planning).
In a statement signed by Secretary, Benin Traditional Council, Frank Irabor, on behalf of the monarch, he thanked the President for the warm reception of members of the Council when they visited the Presidential Villa in July.
The royal father also appreciated Buhari for appointing another two Edo indigenes; Pius Egberanmwen Odubu as Chairman, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Victor Ekhator as Edo State representative in the NDDC board.
“On behalf of members of Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, and the good people of Edo State, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin wishes to thank His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for His Excellency’s warm reception of members of the Council in the Presidential Villa on the 4th July, 2019.
“The Omo N’Oba N’Edo also expresses deep appreciation to Mr. President for acceding to Omo N’Oba’s request to grant two ministerial slots to Edo State with the appointment of Dr. J. Ehanire and Dr. Clememt Agba.
“Mr. President Sir, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin further deeply appreciates Mr. President for Excellency recent appointment of our illustrious sons, Rt. Hon. Dr. Pius Egberanmwen Odubu as Chairman, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and, Chief Victor Ekhator as Edo State representative in the NDDC board who incidentally is one of Omo N’Oba’s Enobore Chiefs.
“For clarification, the functions of Enobore Chiefs in the Palace system are unique in the sense that they are the two chiefs that stand on the right and left sides of the Omo N’Oba during the annual Ugie ceremony procession.
“They are the two chiefs that hold the Omo N’Oba’s arms in aiding and supporting the balance movement of the Oba when in full traditional regalia. Their various appointments attest to Your Excellency’s forthrightness and personal respect for the Benin Crown,” the statement said.
The traditional council, who noted that the appointments came in the aftermath of its members’ visit to the Presidential Villa, appreciated the President for the improvement in electricity supply to the state.
“It is gratifying to note that all these appointments came on the heels of the memorable visit by members of Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs which was led by the Paramount Chairman, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, Oba of Benin.
“The Benin Traditional Council wishes to join Edo State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs to express immense gratitude to His Excellency on behalf of our people.
“Furthermore, the Omo N’Oba thanks Mr. President for the improvement in electricity supply to Edo State, for which there has been quite a lot of appreciations to His Royal Majesty for his intervention.
“His Royal Majesty prays to Almighty God to give Mr. President good health and wisdom to continue leading our Nation to the Next Level,” the statement added.
