The governor of Osun state, Rauf Aregbesola has accepted defeat in the just concluded legislative by-election in Osun West.
Aregbesola took to micro blogging site, Twitter on Sunday to congratulate the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Ademola Adeleke for winning the polls.
Recall that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared the results of the Osun West senatorial by-election earlier today, Sunday, July 9.
According to the results declared by INEC Returning Officer, Professor Olaide Lawal, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won nine (9) of the ten (10) local government areas where the election took place.
PDP candidate, Otunba Ademola Adeleke scored a total of 97, 280 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mudashiru Hussein who polled 66, 115 votes.
The final result of the Osun West by-election showed that Ademola Adeleke of the PDP had 31, 165 votes more than his closest rival and APC candidate, Mudashiru Hussein.
While Ademola Adeleke won nine (9) of the ten (10) local government areas, Mudashiru Hussein who was governor Raul Aregbesola’s preferred candidate, could only deliver his Ejigbo local government for the APC where he scored 12, 229 votes while the PDP polled 9, 723 votes.
Reacting to the results, Aregbesola wrote on Twitter: “I congratulate Ademola Adeleke on his victory at the polls yesterday.T he people have spoken. Democracy won and we respect the people’s choice”.
