#OsunWestDecides: Live Updates From Osun West By-Election


The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the Osun West by-election in Osun state.

The by-election which commenced exactly 8:00am, is taking place in ten (10) local government areas in Osun West Senatorial district.

Eleven (11) political parties are participating in the by-election, with the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) being the three major parties.

The candidates for the  three major political parties that are participating in the Osun West senatorial by-election are : former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bade Falade ( Social Democratic Party, SDP), Otunba Ademola Adeleke (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP) and Senator Mudashiru Hussein (All Progressives Congress, APC).

Hon. Falade emerged the winner of the Social Democratic Party, SDP at a primary conducted in Iwo, Iwo Local Government Area of Osun State on April 14, where he polled 15 votes to defeat his challenger, Rasheed Adeyemo, who polled 12 votes.

Similarly, the younger brother of late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, Otunba Ademola Adeleke picked the ticket to contest for the vacant seat on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, after two other contestants for the ticket, Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi and Mr. Olayiwola Falabi stepped down for him.

Otunba Adeleke had earlier been screened and given clearance by the APC screening and election committee while senator Mudashiru Hussein, who is the preferred candidate of Governor Aregbesola was disqualified, however, the national working committee of the party, upturned the report of the appeal committee which equally sustained the disqualification of Senator Mudashiru Hussein.

Senator Hussein later clinched the ticket on the platform  of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the primary held in Osogbo, the Osun state capital.

The Osun West Senatorial seat became vacant at the National Assembly following the death of Senator Isiaka Adeleke on April 23, who was until his death representing the district.

The Osun West constituency has (10) local government areas, 110 Registration areas, 911 Polling Units, 1006 Voting Points and 1 Registration Officer

10:30am: APC candidate, Senator Mudashiru Hussein cast his vote at his polling Unit 1, Ward 3, Ejigbo LG.

10:30am: Former PDP Chairman and SSG, Engr Fatai Akinbade, cast his vote at Unit 1 Ward 3 Ola Oluwa LG.

10: 32am: Former Speaker of the OSHA and PDP Governorship Aspirant, Hon Adejare Bello gets accredited, waiting to cast hi vote.

10:40am: PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke cast his vote, says he is 100% confident of victory and that morale is high in his camp.

11:01am: The wife of the Late Senator Isiaka Adeleke, Mrs Adenike Adeleke, cast her vote in Ward 2, Unit 9, Ede North LGA.

11:02am: A member of the HoR representing Iwo Federal Constituency, Hon Gafar Amere, cast his vote in PU 006 Ward 8, Iwo LGA.

11:07am: Dr Deji Adeleke (Davido’s father) and the elder brother to PDP candidate, cast his vote at Alajue Unit 2, Ward 4 Ede North LGA.

11:15am: Voters at St John, Okinni, PU009 Ward 10, repel against some thugs.

11:30am: Speaker of the OSHA, Rt Hon Najeem F. Salaam, cast his vote in a unit in Ejigbo LGA.
