The English FA has announced an immediate suspension of the Premier League, English Football League (EFL), League one and League two till the 3rd of April.
The announcement was necessitated by the confirmation of Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta’s positive Coronavirus status on Thursday. Also affected is Chelsea winger, Callum Hudson-Odoi who has since declared that he has recovered.
The Spanish La Liga and Italian Serie A have also announced suspensions of matches in the main league and lower cadres till April. The German Bundesliga has also announced it is suspending matches till April.
On Friday, UEFA announced a cancellation of upcoming fixtures in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.
Other sporting events have also been cancelled with the Australian Grand Prix eventually called off after initial signs of not playing safe. The ATP has also suspended every tennis event for six weeks while the NBA also declared suspension of the league after Utah Jazz’s Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell were confirmed positive.
Italy is the most ravaged country in Europe recording over 1000 deaths so far and has the highest number of affected patients outside China.
