Protesters Call For Bouteflika’s Resignation In Algeria

Thousands of demonstrators have gathered in the centre of the country’s capital for a fourth consecutive Friday demanding an end to the 20-year rule of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

This was days after the ailing 82-year old leader gave up his ambition of a fifth term with proposed participation in the country’s next election.

His recent announcement that he would no longer seek a reelection was not unconnected with the series of protests that has rocked Algeria in recent weeks.

A resignation may be a tall order for the President who has postponed the election indefinitely.
