Bisi Fayemi, wife of the Ekiti State Governor, was attacked on Tuesday by the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE) students who were protesting against power outage.
Fayemi was returning from an empowerment programme.
According to reports, all the vehicles on her convoy were affected while a police vehicle was burnt.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, who confirmed this incident said that the students truly protested in the morning and blocked the Ifaki-Ikole-Omuo Federal highway and prevented the free flow of vehicles.
“The protesting student turned around in their numbers and took their plight to Her Excellence, Erule Bisi Fayemi, The Wife of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State who was at an empowerment program.
“The protesting Student suddenly became unruly, hostile and took laws into their hands, also Vandalized the motorcade of her excellency.
“The protesting student did not stop at that; they also assaulted the policemen who were at the scene to maintain law and order and damaged Police Vehicle found at the Scene.
“They allegedly vandalised the property of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC),” he added.
According to the Police spokesperson, “a weapon has been recovered from the protesting student”.
