Rafael Nadal Cements ‘King Of The Clay’ Title With 12th French Open Triumph

Rafael Nadal was in his devastating best as he swept Austrian, Dominic Thiem aside at the Rolland Garros.

The Spaniard defeated Thiem after four sets with a 6-3,5-7,6-1,6-1 victory.

Nadal has won the French Open for three straight years now, as he continues to show the world the clay court is his.

His 12th French Open title makes it a total of 18 Grand slams for the Madridista. He became the first player to win 12 titles in the same Grand slam.

Nadal is second on the list of tennis players with the highest number of Grand slams, coming two short of Roger Federer’s 20 and three clear of Serbian, Novak Djokovic’s 15.

“I can’t explain what I’ve achieved and how I feel. It’s a dream,” said Nadal.

“To play for the first time in 2005 – I never thought in 2019 I’d still be here. It’s an incredible moment and very special for me.”
