Speaker of the Nigerian House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara during a keynote address on Thursday at the Celebration conference of the #NotTooYoungToRun Movement called on older politicians to give room for youths to partake in the governance of the country.
Dogara said young people see vision and should take the centre stage while the old people should retire and dream about their days.
“I want to recommend that young people are appointed as Ministers”.
He said any lawmaker that “passes vote of no confidence on the youths” is invariably passing the vote of no confidence on his legislative skill.
He added that the fight against violence is the first fight that must be won if Nigeria’s democracy must survive.
“Our youth advocates must be commended for their tenacity, and I look forward to seeing young aspirants vie for elective positions come 2019” he said.
President Muhammadu Buhari signed the “Not Too Young To Run” bill into law on Thursday May 31, 2018 inside the Council Chamber of State House Presidential Villa, in the presence of selected invited youth from across the county.
