The spokesperson of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) group, Sesugh Akume says Mariam Mohammed Isa who was rescued on Wednesday evening by troops is not one of the girls kidnapped by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014.
Recall that Femi Adesina, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari said one of the Chibok school girls had escaped from her captors on Wednesday, but it was later discovered that that the girl, Mariam Mohammed-Isa, is a 15-year-old JSS 1 student of Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS), Chibok, Borno state – where the mass abduction took place.
Speaking on the matter on Thursday, spokesperson of the BBOG, said the name of the girl could not be found on the group’s list of the abducted girls.
“We’ve carefully perused our list of missing #ChibokGirls but don’t seem to find the name of this latest returnee.
“We have also seen a tweet from the presidency confirming that she isn’t one of them as she is/was a JSS 1 student.
“Whether one of our Chibok girls or not, our joy and excitement is the same for everyone in captivity who regains their freedom. We look forward to all returning soon,” he said.
Recall that the Federal Government secured the release of eighty two (82) Chibok from their captors in exchange for an undisclosed number of Boko Haram commanders held by the federal government.
The development came after twenty one (21) others were released in October last year and another three also regained their freedom, in separate circumstances.
The Chibok school girls were released to international negotiators who have been working in collaboration with the federal government for their safe return since they were kidnapped in April 2014.
