Nigerians have taken to various social media platforms to pay tribute to the late governor of Taraba state, Danbaba Suntai.
Mr. Suntai who survived an air crash at the Yola Airport in Adamawa State in 2012, died in United States of America on Wednesday, June 28, 2017.
ALEDEH gathered that the former governor under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) passed away in a hospice in Orlando, Florida where he was undergoing rehabilitation for brain injuries arising from the plane crash.
A source who is with the Government of Taraba State, told ALEDEH that Mr. Suntai did not die in London, United Kingdom as reported by some online media platforms.
“In fact, we are in shock. We had just called his brother so we can send down a few things to him when he told us we just lost him 5mins before our call” our source said
The source added: ” “He wasn’t in London. Neither did he die at home as many are reporting. He has been in a hospice in Orlando, Florida,” the source assured.
Few minutes after the news of his death broke, many Nigerians took to their social media accounts to pay tribute to the late governor.
Suntai was a dedicated and purpose-driven leader – Dogara
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara, joined well-meaning Nigerians to mourn the demise of Mr. Suntai.
In a statement which was issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Turaki Hassan, Dogara described the late Suntai has a dedicated and purpose-driven leader who had the interest of his people at heart and has left indelible footprints on the development of the state.
“I received the news of the death of former governor Suntai with a deep feeling of sadness but God is the author of life, from Him we came and to Him we will return.
“To the government and people of Taraba State, I extend my heartfelt condolences, and to his immediate family members who are the ones who will feel the pain more deeply. I pray God comforts you and gives you the fortitude to bear the loss,” the Speaker said.
We are proud of Suntai – PDP
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), say they are proud of late Mr. Suntai, who they described as an outstanding and professional man.
The Deputy PDP National Chairman in Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction, Dr Cairo Ojougboh said this on Wednesday.
“We are proud of late Suntai. He left his profession and became a politician in order to bring quality to governance.
“This, he exhibited, while in office until the unfortunate plane crash incident.
“Suntai represented PDP well and are very proud of him.”
Suntai: I pray God comforts You – Dr. Orumwense O. Dan
The Deputy President South, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Dr. Orumwense O. Dan, also condoled with the family of the late governor.
Dr. Dan wrote on micro blogging site, Twitter: “I condole with the People of Taraba State on the demise of their Former Governor, Pharm. Danbaba Suntai. I pray God comfort You”.
Other Nigerians were not left behind as they also took to their social media accounts to pay tribute to late Suntai.
