Senate Adjourns Plenary To Mourn Senator Longjan

The Senate on Tuesday suspended plenary in honour of late Senator who represented Plateau South Senatorial District, Ignatius Longjan.

Longjan died at the age of 75 in a Turkish hospital on Sunday night.

Majority Leader, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi moved a motion for the suspension of Tuesday’s plenary and the motion was seconded by Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe.

Longjan who served as deputy governor of Plateau State from 2011 to 2015 died barely two months after the demise of Senator Benjamin of Imo State.

Presiding over the Senate, Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege described Longjan’s death as “very painful” and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.

“Our hearts are very heavy today. This is, indeed, one loss too many, just as we have been grieving the loss of a dear friend and colleague, Senator Uwajumogu,” he said.

He announced that Wednesday’s plenary would be dedicated to late Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu who died in December last year.
