Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka joined Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun and others to have a ride on the Lagos-Ibadan Railway.
Soyinka was elated as he said he does not care about who made it happen. He said the proposed megastation for the railway used to be his regular spot.
He said the area of the railway construction might be an eventual location for the launching of a rocket.
The train ran at 60km/hour according to one of the engineers but is capable of moving at 150km/hour.
Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle AmosunSoyinka said; “This plateau seems to be naturally donated for this kind of enterprise, one of these days, from this platform, a rocket will go to the next planet,” he said.
“I don’t give a damn who fixed this, as the Yoruba adage goes, let a man see a snake, let a woman kill the snake, just let the snake be killed,” Soyinka said in a mix of Yoruba and English.
Wole Soyinka is here. Turns out his famous Abeokuta house is not far from where we are; where the Abeokuta Mega Station will be. “These used to be my hunting grounds,” he said. “I’m here to see what my old hunting grounds were appropriated for.” #LagosIbadanRail pic.twitter.com/n7uIwNl3W7
