Senator representing Anambra North, Stella Oduah has presented a cheque of N300,000 to the father of Oluomachi Joseph Opara, the 9-year-old hawker who was discovered in a viral video.
The boy who hawks coconut entertained his customers by singing Catholic hymns in a melodious voice as he sells his goods.
Oduah had urged the general public to help her locate the boy, stating that full scholarship awaits him.
“This amazing sonorous angel MUST be encouraged so I ask anyone that knows his whereabouts to help me locate him. A full scholarship and also classes at our Music School awaits him already. Thank you,” she had tweeted.
In a statement on Friday, the Senator who confirmed that she has found the boy, expressed joy and gratitude at the way many have identified with his raw talent.
“The gifts of God are akin to raw diamond; uncut and in need of polishing, to bring out their inherent brilliance and when it comes in the form of a young boy innocently belting out sonorous tunes ordinarily reserved for angels whilst bearing a tray full of petty goods on his head, it strikes the kind of chord that no human with blood flowing through their veins can easily overlook and this explains why it was imperative that I go to any length to locate Master Oluomachi Joseph Opara whose beautiful voice blessed us in no small measure and I am pleased to finally announce that we have found him!” she said.
Oduah disclosed that her team comprising of the Director Media and Publicity, Ezennia Nonso Chukwudebe and General Manager, MAXLIFE Foundation Mr Casimir Chianumba visited his Nekede Old Mechanic Village, Owerri family house where they met him in company of his dad and other family members.
The Senator acknowledged that “there are many Oluomachi’s in our midst who are blessed with various gifts”, saying it “remains my fervent hope and prayer that such budding talents do not go unnoticed but are discovered and harnessed for the good of society.
“Indeed it is this very thinking that necessitated the Talent hunt program we once introduced across the 7 LGA’S of Anambra North SENATORIAL district and through our MAXLIFE FOUNDATION that has seen countless indigent youths assisted majorly in the areas of educational scholarships and skill acquisition, we will continue to seek out new ways to encourage persons with outstanding gifts that need to be horned.
Recall that ALEDEH had reported that the State Governor, Hope Uzodinma adopted Opara on Father’s Day and promised to sponsor him from primary school level (his current educational level) to Catholic priesthood (his career choice).
Reacting, Oduah said: “I would like to thank my brother, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodinma, for graciously electing to adopt and cater to Master Oluomachi’s education and general well-being and also others who in one way or the other have reached out to this child and to say that God will continue to increase and enlarge their coasts.
She added: “On my part, I shall continue to monitor his progress and pray that this beautiful gift of his is perfected like that polished Diamond whose brilliance melts the hearts of nations.
