Sultan Announces Sighting Of Moon, Declares Ramadan Over

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has announced Sunday, June 25 as Eid el-Fitr day, bringing an end to the 2017 Ramadan fast.

The development means Nigerian Muslims are now expected to join their Muslim counterparts around the world in festivities marking the end of the annual month of deprivation and spiritual rejuvenation.

According to the Sultan, the Eid el-Fitr day is coming after the moon of Shawwal  was sighted Saturday evening, June 24 in Borno and Adamawa States among other places.

Meanwhile, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had earlier announced the sighting of the moon, signaling the end of 2017 Ramadan fast.
