Emerging information has it that eight out of ten suspects that invaded Afuze Divisional Police Headquarters in Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, have been arrested.
The gunmen, according to reports, also attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Afuze. No death was recorded at the INEC office, but a Police Hilux van was set ablaze.
In the latest development, the Edo State Police Command has arrested eight out of those that carried out the attacks. One of those arrested was the suspect that pulled the trigger which led to the death of the pregnant policewoman.
It was gathered that trouble started when the police in Afuze arrested one of the gang members and detained him in the cell for a related crime. The suspect was said to contacted the leader of his gang who came to appeal to the DPO for bail. The gang leader was said to have offered some money for bail but the DPO turned it down and requested for the case to be transferred to the state CID in Benin for further investigation.
Infuriated with the refusal, the leader of the gang directed his men who were outside to unleash mayhem on the police station which led to the killings of 4 policemen on duty.
Aledeh learnt that all the suspects arrested so far are from Edo state.
