United States President, Donald Trump is seeking to eradicate the scourge of HIV/AIDS epidemic in the country.
He called on the U.S congress to pass legislation to help end the epidemic within 10 years.
This was contained in the President’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday.
“My budget will ask Democrats and Republicans to make the needed commitment to eliminate the HIV epidemic in the U.S. within 10 years,” Trump said.
“Together we will defeat AIDS in America and beyond,’’ he noted.
Although he did not identify the total budget that would be devoted to the effort, he said his plans will involve asking the congress to take appropriate steps to end the epidemic.
The president also reiterated his determination to reduce the prices of drugs and effectively battle childhood cancer.
According to 2017 statistics, approximately 36.9 million people are living with HIV globally with 38,000 infected people in the United States.
