Unrest In Sagamu As Youths Protest Alleged Killing Of Footballer By SARS Officials (Video)

There is a civil unrest ongoing in Sagamu at the moment with Police and youths in the town in an altercation over killing of a footballer in the town.

SARS officials had allegedly pushed a footballer, Kazeem Tiamiyu, known as ‘Kaka’ by locals, out of a moving vehicle, according to an eyewitness account by his teammate, Sanni Abubakar.

‘Kaka’, a defender, was the assistant captain of local football side, Remo Stars and was well known across the town for his football skills.

On Monday, February 24th, Sagamu youths went to the palace of the Akarigbo of Remoland in the town to express their displeasure with the incidence, as they raised placards with “No More SARS” inscriptions.

The king addressed the angry youths, alongside former Ogun State governor and an eminent son of the town, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. Also present were Members of the House of Representatives and the Ogun State House of Assembly.

The youths marched on to the Police Station In Sagamu before officers dispersed them with gunshots into the air.

However, eyewitness accounts suggest that one of the shots killed a youth, leading to renewed anger from the protesters.

Daniel, while addressing the youths called for calm amid the trouble and said he was on his way to Ibadan when the Akarigbo called him to come and help to douse the tension in the town.

ALEDEH has gathered that there have been face-offs between the Police and angry youths in various areas of Sagamu, with some casualties recorded already, according to eyewitness accounts.
