Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on the legal affirmation of his election by the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Wednesday.
In a statement by Special Assistant to the Governor (Electronic Media), Simeon Nwakaudu, Wike urged Buhari to use his victory to work for all Nigerians, irrespective of their political leanings.
The governor further called on the President to work towards the unity of the country, noting that the country is divided.
The tribunal had earlier upheld the election of President Buhari, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 23 election, dismissing the petition of candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar.
Atiku and his party had asked the tribunal to declare them winner, arguing that the election was rigged in favour of Buhari.
But at the tribunal, the lead judge, Mohammed Garba, said the PDP and Atiku failed to provide enough evidence to support the claims in the petition.
